MSNBC News Coverage

Sitting here watching MSNBC and unable to stomach more of the ANS legal wranglings, I flipped to CNN, immediately finding stories on Supreme Court decision about detainees' legal rights, appeals court overturn of tobacco judgment--in other words, important matters.

I have been a big fan of Dan Abrams and was very pleased to hear of his elevation to head up MSNBC news. BUT if this relentless nit-picking coverage of the Anna Nicole Smith stuff--with its horde of lawyers from Bahamas, California, and Outer Space--is what Dan thinks is good, important news coverage, I stand corrected.

Please! what happened to the sensible process of good newspeople's practice of gathering, assimilating, and offering considered judgment, instead of this incessant spewing of details that are absolutely inconsequential except to the families involved.

And I'm one who is actually interested in how our legal system does its work. In detail. But enough is enough on this case! Where's Dan's sense of proportionate coverage gone? Maybe his legal expertise has now become his legalistic obsessions.

Intervention! somebody!

I'll be watching CNN nowadays, except for Imus, Matthews, Scarborough, and Olberman.

I entered this message board with my little rant because I could not locate a "Contact Us" link for MSNBC's honchos.

Do they ever look at this sort of MBoard? Is there some other way to get to/at them? Our complaints are worth their hearing--directly.

I keep resisting the idea that "anything for money" simply throws open the doors for news organizations to do whatever they want.

And what about the (often low-decibel) voices of people who have thoughtful concerns about the mass education and miseducation of America only by way of a money-driven media complex?

Is there no/none/nada sense of human/social responsibility in the big-money world? I just don't believe that.

"The Old Guy" still naively hopefully pressing on . . .
